Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i (July 6, 2009) – King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, the landmark oceanfront resort on Ali‘i Drive, has completed an extensive renovation of all 230 rooms in its West Tower, thereby making one-half of the property virtually brand new.
Rooms in the East Tower are closed for the next phase of renovation, so every available room is brand new. Rates start at $179/night, with a special grand re-opening discount of 30 percent off per night available. Visit www.konabeachhotel.com for more information, or call (808) 329-2911.
The new rooms, available July 3, bring the Big Island’s definitive identity indoors. Plush carpeting seems to flow in whorls of lava, reflecting the very foundation of the island; new wood chairs are upholstered in a Kona coffee bean print with a carved coffee leaf pattern; textiles such as pillow shams, wall coverings and dusters borrow hues from the Hawaiian rainforest: a multitude of fern greens, rich browns and the occasional splash of fiery orange magma.
The culturally rich resort sits on 13 beachfront acres adjacent to the Kailua Pier, and encompasses the land where King Kamehameha the Great peacefully resided and governed after uniting all the Hawaiian Islands under his rule, until his death in 1819. Also on the property is the temple that Kamehameha restored, Ahu‘ena Heiau, dedicated to Lono, the Hawaiian god of peace, agriculture and prosperity.
“The renovations are nothing less than a renaissance for King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel,” said General Manager Jak Hu. “Our guests who have been coming to the property since it opened 34 years ago will be ecstatic about the transformation, and guests discovering the resort for the first time will definitely want to return.”
