Get a first-hand look at life aboard a 19th century whaling ship from the perspective of the men who lived the hard life of a whaler. This museum also features superb examples of scrimshaw, offers self-guided tours in several languages and frequently hosts special events. Admission to the Whalers Village Museum is free and it’s open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
This 45 square mile park whose name means “House of the Sun” offers guests the opportunity to experience some of the most breathtaking natural vistas anywhere in Hawaii. Don’t miss the sylvan freshwater falls in the Kipahulu section, where hikers are rewarded with refreshing natural pools and unforgettable views.
This small town located between the West Maui Mountains and the Auau Channel is bustling with activity. If you’re in the mood to experience some of the best nightlife, shopping and dining, then Lahaina should be on your short list of places to visit. Since it’s less than an hour from our Hawaii resort, Front Street is a great place to start—whether you feel like people-watching, exploring art galleries or having a bite to eat.
One of the most popular things for families visiting the island is the Maui Ocean Center. Exhibits include a living reef and its inhabitants, Turtle Lagoon and Hammerhead Harbor. The hands-on Tide Pool could easily be one of the most memorable events of your visit to Maui as a marine naturalist guides you to experience aquatic life up close and personal. This impressive display of Pacific Ocean life is open 365 days a year from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This family favorite is located two miles west of the airport in the Maui Mall and features an extensive collection of more than 2,000 airplane models, other models of ships, airplanes and cars made from soda cans. There is no entrance fee but donations are welcomed.
